Calling to check on the status of an application: Do or don't?

Before we go into the details I should point out the biggest mistake — one that I made repeatedly and didn’t see success until I fixed it.

You must follow-up.

I'm not the most organized person. I used to send out dozens of my resumes and then wait for an answer. The thing I found out is that 7-8 out of 10 no-answers weren't interested indeed. But one or two simply either lost my email/application or haven't had the chance to read it. By following up I made sure that they had my latest resume and answer any questions they had. This almost always lead to an interview.

Use ConvertJob or something similar to track your conversations. In the very beginning I tracked everything in a Spreadsheet. Moving leads across columns based on how they responded to my emails. How you track conversations doesn’t matter, it only matter that you never miss following up again.
